Free Girl Scout Week 2023 Resources for Leaders

Are you looking for free Girl Scout Week 2023 resources? Here is a list to help you organize the third Girl Scout holiday of the year.

There are three Girl Scout holidays on the calendar. The first is Girl Scout Founder's Day, which takes place on October 31st. The second is World Thinking Day, which is February 22nd.

The third holiday is Girl Scout Week, which takes place around the same time each year in March. It always falls sometime during the week of March 12th, which is the day Juliette Gordon Low founded the Girl Scout movement.

When is Girl Scout Week 2023?

This year, Girl Scout Week 2023 takes place from March 12th through March 18th.

When a troop celebrates Girl Scout Week, most of the activities are individual. The exception to that is when a girl goes to her place of worship to celebrate to participate in the service. This year, those dates are:

Girl Scout Sunday (Christian)—Sunday, March 12, 2023

Girl Scout Jummah (Muslim)—Friday, March 17, 2023

Girl Scout Sabbath/Shabbat (Jewish)—Friday/Saturday, March 17–18, 2023

Investing in Our Future: Honoring Our Legacy and Powering the Next Century of Girl Scouting

Girl Scouts has always been about serving girls. As we look ahead to the next century of Girl Scouting, we remain focused on ensuring our resources reflect the evolving needs of the Girl Scout Movement.

For nearly a century, the Edith Macy Center in Briarcliff Manor, New York, has been a treasured part of the Girl Scout story. Generations of volunteers, council leaders, and staff have come together there to learn, connect, and advance the Girl Scout mission. From the “University in the Woods” that Edith Macy, chair of the Girl Scout National Board of Directors from 1919 – 1925, first envisioned to the conferences, trainings, and celebrations that have taken place since, Macy has been a place where ideas—and friendships—have flourished.

As Girl Scouts continues to evolve to meet the needs of today’s girls and tomorrow’s leaders, we’re reimagining how we train, connect, and collaborate across our Movement. That includes taking a thoughtful look at how we use and steward our properties to ensure they serve the needs of the Movement now and in the future.

As part of this process, Girl Scouts of the USA will begin planning for a full sale of the Edith Macy property at some point in 2026. This decision was made after careful consideration by the National Board and other key stakeholders as part of a broader property strategy to ensure that every asset supports our long-term mission and vision. While Macy holds deep historical significance, ultimately, the full sale of the property is the most mission-aligned, financially responsible, and sustainable path forward. Additionally, in support of the future of the Movement, we will sell up to three floors at the national headquarters in New York City.

We are excited about what this means for the Movement. This sale of the Edith Center empowers us to extend Edith Macy’s vision in dynamic, inclusive, and tech-enabled ways—far beyond what one location can offer. The values Edith Macy championed—learning, connection, and growth—will continue to guide how we design modern, accessible, and inclusive learning opportunities for the adults who bring Girl Scouting to life. And the rightsizing of our headquarters space will better reflect our current and future ways of working, helping us serve the Movement more effectively.

Together, we are honoring our past while boldly stepping into the future — ensuring that the legacy of Girl Scouts continues to shine brightly for generations of girls to come.

The Financial Literacy Badges Girl Scouts Are Loving (And Parents Too.)

What if learning about money felt less like homework… and more like planning your dream future?

Across the country, Girl Scouts are turning financial literacy into something hands-on, confidence-building, and FUN. From creating budgets and comparing prices to exploring careers, entrepreneurship, and long-term financial goals, girls of all ages are building real-world money skills one badge at a time.

Made possible through support from Charles Schwab, Girl Scouts’ Financial Literacy Badges are helping girls explore everything from earning and saving to investing and goal setting in ways that feel empowering, age-appropriate, and exciting.

Here’s how a few councils are bringing these badges to life:

Girl Scouts of Central Texas hosted Badge University, where Girl Scouts from Brownies through Ambassadors explored entrepreneurship, leadership, life skills, and financial literacy through hands-on badge sessions.

Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri gave Brownies the chance to practice spending, saving, and sharing by creating their own budgets through an interactive virtual program. Older Girl Scouts in Eastern Missouri also explored what it really takes to finance “real life” through activities focused on financial independence and everyday money decisions.

Meanwhile, Juniors in Eastern Missouri put their budgeting skills to the test by planning a meal, shopping for ingredients, and cooking a dish themselves.

Girl Scouts of North East Ohio hosted hands-on Financial Literacy badge events and afterschool programs where girls explored entrepreneurship, budgeting, and financial goal setting through interactive activities and badge earning opportunities.

And that’s what makes these badges so impactful. Financial literacy isn’t being taught through long lectures or complicated worksheets. Girl Scouts are learning by doing, experimenting, problem-solving, and building confidence along the way.

In a time when financial literacy is more important than ever, these experiences are helping girls feel prepared for whatever future they dream up for themselves.

Explore the World Of Animals with the New Badges

Girl Scouts are good at so many things, from learning new skills to spreading joy and giving back to their communities. One thing that unites Girl Scouts is their desire to create positive change and help others. With their boundless curiosity, Girl Scouts have the power to make a difference in the world, not only in the lives of people, but also in the lives of every creature we share the planet with: animals!

Animals close to home can provide companionship and support, or make our lives easier. Animals far away can spark a new interest or teach us more about the world. But some animals face danger every day. Because they can't speak up when they need help, it’s our job to protect them. When your Daisy, Junior, or Cadette starts earning one of the new Girl Scout Animal Badges, they’ll embark on a fun journey into the world of animals.

Unlock a NEW badge by downloading one of our free, fun activities! Animal Habitats and Animal Helpers badge—made possible thanks to The Elliott Wildlife Values Project.

Animal Observer–Daisy (K-1)

Girl Scouts are naturally curious and eager to explore their surroundings. With the new Animal Observer badge, Daisy Girl Scouts will hone in on their observation skills to discover more about animals, near and far. They’ll start by using their senses to identify animal sounds, prints, and behaviors and take notes like an animal scientist. Then they’ll play games to solidify their knowledge and have the chance to visit one of their favorite animals in real life!

Animal Habitats–Junior (4-5)

Animals live in all types of homes—in trees, underground, underwater, and even on glaciers! With the Animal Habitats badge, Junior Girl Scouts can investigate different animal habitats at home and around the world. They’ll use their curiosity to explore animal homes and try their hand at building one. Then they’ll learn about endangered animals and the importance of protecting their habitats to benefit the planet.

Animal Helpers–Cadettes (6-8)

The connection between humans and animals has always existed. Whether animals are serving to protect or provide comfort in difficult times, the animal-human connection is an essential part of human history. With the Animal Helpers badge, Cadette Girl Scouts will learn about this connection and its mutual benefits. They will learn to translate knowledge into action and become advocates for animals by actively participating in organizations dedicated to animal welfare.

The Girl Scout Animal badges not only teach Girl Scouts about their favorite animals, they also help them discover more about the world around them and how to use what they learn to create positive change.
